A charity has called for everyone on Universal Credit to be given a “work allowance” to give low income Scots a cash boost.Citizens Advice Scotland believes extending the existing scheme would reduce in-work poverty - and insists payments should be increased for people who are looking for jobs.
Around 480,000 people in Scotland were on Universal Credit in August but the social security payment was cut by £20 a week by the Tory Government.
A key element of the benefit is the “work allowance”, which is the amount someone can earn before their UC is clawed back.It is currently set at £335 a month for people who receive housing costs as part of their UC, and £557 for those who do not.However, the allowance is not available to everyone on UC -
