In the three years since the Scottish Government has had the legislative powers to introduce social security benefits, it has delivered 11, including seven new ones with more to come as 17 are due to be introduced in total.
Social Security Scotland estimates it will deliver support to one in three people across the country in addition to the localised help available through all 32 regional council areas, including Council Tax Reductions and additional support measures for those on a low-income.
Although Covid-19 had an impact on the timetable for delivery of devolved Scottish benefits, over the last year, four new ones were introduced and the next, Adult Disability Payment, will replace Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for new claimants at the end of March 2022.
Two of the new benefits being introduced over the next two years include an annual £50 Winter Heating Payment and Pension Age Winter Heating Assistance.
