M&S; 45 are sold every minute, and two pairs of knickers are sold every second. The range on offer has evolved naturally with the times, the technologies and the fashion trends – every generation’s ‘body ideals’ have been catered to, from the the conical bras of the 1950s, to the girdles of the 1960s, right up to the Goodmove and soft cup styles that flew off the shelves during lockdown..M&S first launched bras for its customers in 1926, delivering the most-wanted shape for the roaring ‘20s era; ‘a flatter chest and boyish figure’.

The brand’s early styles had just six components, compared to today’s average of 23, and came in one size, as opposed to the hundred or so cup and band width iterations to choose from now.
