£1m fast tracked to save borough's leisure centres

Trafford council has fast tracked a long-term investment of almost £1m to save its struggling leisure centres.When lockdown began in March all leisure centres in the borough were forced to close.The facilities have now been given the go ahead to reopen by the government from July 25 with strict social distancing rules and a new cleaning regime in place.But the financial impact of coronavirus and the long term closures associated on Trafford Leisure Trust and its centres across the borough will be felt for some time to come.To head off this financial difficulty, at an extraordinary meeting last night, Trafford council agreed to give the trust its long-term funds all at once.A total of £968,000, originally earmarked to compensate leisure.
