Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Sunbathing, unlimited exercise and driving longer distances will all be allowed from Wednesday, Boris Johnson has announced in a TV address on the next phase of the coronavirus response.

Anyone who cannot work from home - such as those in construction or manufacturing - are also being ‘actively encouraged to go to work’ from tomorrow, but warned to avoid public transport.

Mr Johnson insisted these were simply ‘the first careful steps’ in relaxing the rules, however, warning: “No, this is not the time simply to end the lockdown this week.” The Prime Minister’s address had been keenly anticipated, particularly after he told MPs that restrictions would be eased tomorrow ‘if possible’.
