Emergency services closed off both sides of the motorway after the incident at around 6am yesterday morning. Police said a woman had fallen from a bridge between the Swinton and Pendlebury junctions.
She was taken to hospital from the scene. A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service has today confirmed that she suffered 'very serious injuries'.
