Wild Wednesday shoppers in early morning queues as stores slash prices after lockdown

Shoppers are hitting the high street to join early morning queues on the first day stores reopen after England's second national lockdown comes to an end.

In London's Oxford Street, early risers left nothing to chance as they started queuing outside Primark before sunrise. In the final weeks before Christmas, business leaders hope customers will return to their local stores as all non-essential shops in all tiers reopen.

Much of England is under Tier 2 and 3 of the new Covid-19 restrictions which limits social contact between households, but allows non-essential shops to reopen.

In preparation, retailers have been working hard to make their buildings safe for customers while some have organised festive events to entice shoppers.
