Real Madrid turned dow the chance of signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax last summer, opting to sign Eder Militao from Porto.
According to Diario AS, Real were in two minds about which central defender best suited their philosophy and went for the cheaper option in the end.
Unfortunately for boss Zinedine Zidane, Militao has struggled to replicate the positive form he showed in Portugal and had featured in just nine La Liga games before coronavirus struck.
The £45m signing was subjected to some harsh criticism from Los Blancos fans following their side’s recent 2-1 loss at Real Betis.
