Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Wayne Rooney has what it takes to become the Manchester United manager in the future. Rooney, 34, joined Derby County in a player-coach role midway through this season and will come up against former side United in Thursday night's FA Cup fifth round tie.

Rooney ended his United career after 13 years in 2017, having won every major trophy in club football and supplanted Sir Bobby Charlton as the club's leading goalscorer on 253.

The former United captain was in attendance for Solskjaer's first game as manager against Huddersfield last season, and was at Old Trafford in January for the 3-1 League Cup semi-final first leg shellacking by Manchester City.
