All primary school teachers have been advised by a union that it is unsafe to return to school on Monday. In a message to employers, the National Education Union (NEU) said primary schools should remain closed for the first two weeks of January and move to remote learning It comes after a government U-turn saw schools in all London boroughs, parts of Essex, Kent, East Sussex, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire ordered to remain close.
However, other areas with soaring infection rates under tier 4 restrictions, such as Greater Manchester, parts of the West Midlands and Berkshire, have not been ordered to close schools.
