The UK's coronavirus hospital death toll has increased by 12, with all but one of the deaths occurring in England. England reported 11 new deaths on Friday and Northern Ireland recorded one.
There were no new deaths in Scotland and Wales. Scotland reported an additional 159 confirmed cases as it grappled with local outbreaks.
On recent Fridays, the number of deaths announced were 10 on August 28, five on August 21, nine on August 14, 17 on August 7 and 13 on July 31.
The latest figures came as the coronavirus R rate could still be above one - meaning not under control and spreading - and a new study suggests the rate of new infections in private households in England "remains unchanged".
