The team behind St Leger favourite Pyledriver have revealed they turned down "life-changing" sums for him. William Muir's colt, unsold at £10,000 as a foal, is the 11/4 favourite for Saturday's final Classic of the Flat season.

He arrives at Doncaster on the back of an impressive three-and-a-half length win in the Group 2 Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.

Mogul and Darain, horses which cost connections £3.4 and £3.5 million, were brushed aside in the August 19 trial. The La Pyle Partnership rejected similar large amounts for the son of Harbour Watch after his success at Royal Ascot. "It was life-changing money," said Muir, confirming seven figure sums were on the table.
