Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a shooting which left an 11-year-old boy with potentially life-changing injuries.
The child was playing a video game at home when a gang posing as delivery men entered his house in Kerry Drive, Upminster on Friday night.
Eyewitnesses said the boy's father, thought to be 45-year-old Ray Hawkins, opened the door to the masked gang demanded to know where the safe was.
His son was said to be in another room playing a computer game but was shot when the armed raiders searched the house. A source close to the family told The Sun on Sunday: “They had a knock at the door saying it was a delivery. “They opened the door and they hit him over the head with a machete, on the back of the head.
