Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has opened up about the terrifying experience that marked the beginning of a manic episode, leading to his diagnosis with bipolar disorder.The renowned culinary expert described experiencing hallucinations, suicidal thoughts and sedation, along with periods of "extreme highs" that had him "vomiting ideas" and "loving every single person".The 58 year old shared the distressing moment when his wife had no choice but to have him sectioned before emergency services arrived to take him away.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Heston revealed he began noticing mood swings last year, but now believes he's been living with bipolar disorder for "such a long time".
Reflecting on his early career, he recalled suffering from sleeplessness and sending pre-dawn emails to colleagues - something he now recognises as a potential warning sign.
His fluctuating moods would swing from wanting to "love every single person," to becoming enraged if someone so much as moved a Post-it note.
