Tragedy as person found dead at Greater Manchester railway station

A person was tragically found dead at a railway station in Greater Manchester. Officers were called out to Eccles station at around 4.15pm on Sunday afternoon (February 9).

British Transport Police and North West Ambulance Service both attended the incident. Services were halted on the railway line between Manchester and Newton-le-Willows while emergency services worked at the scene.

Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency services. In a statement issued this morning (Monday), British Transport Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A file is being prepared for the coroner, with an inquest likely to follow at a later date. National Rail warned passengers about disruption in the Salford area following the incident on Sunday afternoon.
