Fly-tippers fined after dumping rubbish in Greater Manchester town

Six people will be fined after dumping rubbish on the street in Droylsden, according to Tameside Council. Officers will be taking enforcement action after investigating incidents in the area of Craven Street and Edge Lane on Wednesday, February 12.

Workers from the authority had held a day of action to clear waste that had been dumped. While clearing the waste, the team found evidence linking the flytipping to six people, who will each be issued with Fixed Penalty Notices.

They also talked to local residents about waste issues and concerns and offered guidance. Tameside Council’s executive member for environmental services and neighbourhoods Coun Laura Boyle said: “These days of action raise the profile of how all of us can help improve our communities, but they are only one aspect of our work - officers are out every day cleaning our streets and clearing up and investigating dumped waste. “There is no excuse for flytipping – it is a blight on our local neighbourhoods and costs public funds thousands of pounds every year to clear up.

We will always take action against those responsible where we find evidence and I thank our teams for this dedicated work on behalf of our community.” This year, the council has already carried out two prosecutions and issued 35 fixed penalty notices for waste related offences, according to the local authority.
