Boris Johnson's promise to 'level up' the North was embarrassingly undermined yesterday after the Conservative Party couldn't tell the difference between York and Darlington.
During his Budget speech, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the creation of a Treasury branch office in Darlington - conveniently a 30 minute bus ride from his Richmond constituency.
Promoting the new office on Twitter, the official Conservative Party account posted an image proudly declaring: "Just announced: Treasury North to be set up in: Darlington" Unfortunately the grand announcement was laid over an image of York, which is more than 50 miles south of Darlington.
