Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (born March 5, 1963), better known by his stage name Joe Exotic, is an American former zoo operator, internet personality, musician, and convicted felon. The former owner and operator of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (a.k.a. G. W. Zoo) in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Maldonado-Passage had claimed to be the most prolific breeder of tigers in the United States. He twice unsuccessfully ran for public office, first for President of the United States in 2016 as an independent, and then for Governor of Oklahoma in 2018 as a Libertarian.
Carole Baskin
Carole Baskin (born June 6, 1961) is an American animal rights activist and owner of Big Cat Rescue, a non-profit animal sanctuary based near Tampa, Florida. Baskin drew public attention when she was featured in the 2020 Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness about Oklahoma-based private zoo operator known as Joe Exotic. The Netflix series follows both Baskin and Joe Exotic, filming their ongoing and escalating feuds over exotic animals in private zoos. Following the series' release, Baskin has been targeted by Internet memes related to the disappearance of Don Lewis, her second husband.

As people around the world continue to stay inside to help curtail the spread of the coronavirus, celebrities are sharing their thoughts on Netflix’s latest binge-worthy documentary “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.” The documentary, which came out on March 20 after many around the world were already choosing to stay inside and avoid large crowds, tells the story of Joseph Maldonado-Passage, known better as Joe Exotic.The former zookeeper was convicted by a federal jury of trying to arrange the murder of a Florida animal sanctuary CEO named Carole Baskin.

The documentary recounts the lead up to the crime as well as the aftermath and its impact on the zoo and exotic cat community at large.
