Judge Julie Clemitson found that the offence "was brought about in part by the actions of the victim" after the victim had hit Bruce's car at least three times with a hammer, causing the windscreen to smash.Bruce’s granddaughter "complained she had been assaulted" and asked for her grandfather’s help getting him out of the house.The court heard there was then an altercation between Bruce’s son and the victim’s son, which Bruce was not involved in.But the victim’s son was then joined by his father - and all four men ended up coming together on Galashiels Road - with Bruce and his son arriving on the scene in a car.Prosecutor Vince Ward said residents were woken up in the early hours by car wheels scraping and men.
