Thug, 27, bit pregnant partner before pulling hair and kicking her in 'spilt drink' row

assaulted her while she was carrying his baby, reports PlymouthLive.Plymouth Crown Court heard that he bit her twice to the hand and the arm, pulled her hair and kicked her after an argument over a spilt drink and an old message on her phone.He only calmed down when she reminded him she was 25 weeks pregnant with his child.Judge William Mousley said: "You were drunk and following an argument, you kicked, bit and pulled the hair of your then partner, who was 25 weeks pregnant, while she tried to get her phone from you."She managed to escape to the bathroom and then you calmed down enough for her to escape."He admitted common assault of the woman on November 5 last year.Nick Lewin, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "The defendant spilled a drink on the floor and an argument followed as to who was to clear it up."He picked up the complainant's mobile phone and found a message from a man some months before.

He took umbrage over that and the argument developed into a physical assault. He kicked her to the legs."Welch had previously been convicted in June 2020 of the assault of another partner, who suffered a cut to the back of her ear.Jason Beal, defending Welch, said he suffered from gout and also suffered from mental health problems.He added: "He had been drinking and has virtually no recollection of what took place that night.""Apart from his physical difficulties, there are real and deep-seated mental health concerns in his life."Judge Mousley handed him a prison sentence six months, but suspended that term for 18 months.

He has been ordered to do 160 hours unpaid work, plus probation's Building Better Relationships and Rehabilitation Activity Requirement supervision programmes.Welch must stick to a five-month home.
