Weezer have announced the 30th anniversary reissue of ‘The Blue Album’, which will include 30 unreleased tracks.The band have just kicked off their tour celebrating the self-titled debut (otherwise known as ‘The Blue Album’), after teasing an “epic” run of dates in December last year.Now, Weezer have revealed even more surprises in store for fans by announcing the 30th anniversary reissue of ‘The Blue Album’. The Super Deluxe Edition of the record will be “the most comprehensive vision of ‘The Blue Album’ ever created, and will consist of four 12-inch LPs, one 10-inch and a 7-inch.It is also set to contain 36 previously unreleased tracks, with a number of “early practises”, live recordings, “Kitchen Tape Demos” and BBC radio recordings. Last year, the band announced that they would be releasing a ‘SZNZ’ box set on X/Twitter to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the EP series.

Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo has responded to Liam Gallagher once calling him his “favourite rock star”.Back in 2005, the Oasis legend remarked in an interview (originally published via Chart Communications) that the rock frontman was a “very strange man” and “my new favourite rock star”.The musician went on: “He freaked me out. He’s just the total opposite of me, man… He’s like Yoda… He’s like the Andy Warhol of fucking music.”Speaking to NME for the latest edition of Does Rock N’ Roll Kill Braincells, Cuomo recalled how Oasis offered something “opposite” to what Weezer was doing in the late ’90s.“We did a whole set of Oasis covers under the pseudonym Goat Punishment [in 1998],” he shared.“It was a real education because it was on the heels of [1996’s] ‘Pinkerton’, which is a very tortured, personal, confessional and musically-progressive album, and then I got interested in Oasis because they’re the opposite of that – they’re very broad, universal lyrics, and simple songs with chords that anyone could play, and I wanted to really get inside their way of doing things, so we learned a bunch of their songs and played a show.”Oasis isn’t the only band Cuomo has drawn inspiration from over the years.

Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo has opened up about the time he worked with Taylor Swift on a commercial and her hailing him as her “musical hero”.Speaking to NME for this week’s Does Rock N’ Roll Kill Braincells series, Cuomo took the time to reflect on working with the ‘Bejeweled’ singer back in 2009. The advert was for the video game Band Hero and featured Cuomo, Swift, Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz and Blink-182‘s Travis Barker recreating Tom Cruise‘s iconic ‘Old Time Rock And Roll’ dance scene from 1983’s Risky Business before the group break out into a performance of Swift’s 2008 hit ‘Love Story’.“I was a teenager when the movie Risky Business came out, so the scene of Tom Cruise dancing in his underwear was iconic and influential for my generation, so to be able to recreate it with a handful of other huge stars was a huge honour,” the ‘Buddy Holly’ singer said.He continued: “Taylor Swift was so gracious and everyone fell in love with her when she came in the room and started talking to us.

Weezer feature in a new Netflix new Christmas film called Family Switch.The US rock band – Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner, and Patrick Wilson – make a surprise cameo in the new festive comedy, which stars Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms.The film is a spin on the 2003 classic Freaky Friday, with the synopsis reading: “When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the Walkers to wake up to a full body switch, can they unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal, and soccer tryout?”The band make up the remaining members of Bill’s (Helms) garage band Dad or Alive.
