Tool brought out Billy Strings for a live rendition of ‘Jambi’ during the opening night of their North American Arena tour.Following their headlining set at Power Trip Fest on Sunday (October 8) Tool kicked off the first night of their tour at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bringing out Strings as a special guest, the band and the bluegrass musician jammed out to ‘Jambi’ as the second song of the night’s setlist.Strings has previously discussed playing in different metal bands during his high school years.

Sharon Osbourne has revealed that Black Sabbath‘s final gig will feature a collaboration between Tom Morello, Tool‘s Danny Carey and Smashing Pumpkins‘ Billy Corgan.Earlier this week (February 5), the legendary metal band announced their final-ever live show, which will take place in Birmingham on July 5. The band has also announced star-studded opening acts and special guests, which include the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, recent Grammy-winners Gojira and more.Morello – the soloist and former Rage Against The Machine guitarist – will also be appearing at the gig, serving as music director.

Tool drummer Danny Carey has invented an exercise bike that he can also use for drumming practice.Carey’s exercise bike has a drum pad in place of where a screen might be, meaning he can drum along to music while he is working out.He demonstrated how it works in a video posted to YouTube shorts, playing snare rolls while pedalling on the bike.Check it out below:Last month Tool surprised fans in California last week by breaking out a surprise set at the Bass Magazine Awards, performing to celebrate bassist Justin Chancellor’s win of the Lifetime Achievement Award.At the intimate event, the band and performed two fan-favourite tracks. Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has earned a black belt in the martial art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as confirmed on Instagram. A photo was posted on the social media site by fellow black belt Ty Gay this week (January 8) showing Keenan with his newly-acquired belt. “Congratulations to my friend, training partner, and sometimes nemesis @iamthebriefcase on the monumental task of receiving his Black Belt today,” Gay wrote beneath the photo.

Rush reunion with bandmate Alex Lifeson.Fans assumed the band had broken up for good after the death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020, who quietly battled brain cancer for three years.Opening up in a new interview with The Washington Post, the musician reflected on the band having a reunion of sorts at the Taylor Hawkin’s tribute concerts last year in memory of the Foo Fighters drummer.“It had been a taboo subject,” he said of the experience. “And playing those songs again with a third person was the elephant in the room, and that kind of disappeared.”During the tribute shows in Los Angeles and London, Lee and Lifeson played Rush songs alongside a host of musical friends including the Foo’s own Dave Grohl, Tool‘s Danny Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith and Omar Hakim.Lee said: “It was nice to know that if we decide to go out, Alex and I, whether we went out as part of a new thing, or whether we just wanted to go out and play Rush as Rush, we could do that now.”Following Peart’s death, Lee seemed to suggest that Rush’s touring days were definitely behind them.“That’s finished, right? Foo Fighters have enlisted the help of a new drummer, just over one year after the death of Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins died in March 2022 at his hotel in Bogotá, Colombia, while on tour with the band. He was 50.The announcement came during a livestreamed event on Sunday, in which the band revealed that Josh Freese, session drummer and longtime friend of Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, was joining the band for their upcoming tour. Titled, «Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts,» the livestream saw the band, which till now was comprised of Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, playfully announce their new drummer by teasing fans with a gameshow like reveal.In succession, three top-notch drummers knocked on the door of the band's rehearsal room --  Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee, and Tool's Danny Carey — saying things like, «There’s a white Mercedes blocking my car,» or «Hey I got the PF Changs!» and «I groomed your poodles for you,» while the band members responded by saying things like, «We’ll be right there!»It's then a voice is heard shouting, «Um… EXCUSE ME?!» When the band looks to see who it is, Freese is seen sat behind a drumkit that had been strategically placed off-camera.«Can we play a song or something?!» he asks before the band starts playing songs from their new album, .Freese is a natural choice for the group, as he's a friend of both Grohl and Hawkins and is a veteran session drummer who has performed with a stacked set of bands, including, Guns N' Roses, A Perfect Circle, Puddle of Mudd, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Paramore, the Replacements, Sting and the Vandals.
