Alex Scott tops list of trailblazers in women's football, study finds
Alex Scott has topped a list of leading trailblazers in women's football – which also includes legendary presenter Gabby Logan, and England stars like Steph Houghton.The 37-year-old pundit, and former Arsenal right-back player, beat other big names such as Baroness Karren Brady, vice-chairman of West Ham FC, to the top of the list.And Lucy Bronze, Ellen White, Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Fran Kirby all made the list for their achievements on the pitch, in the study of 1,500 female football fans.It also emerged 60% of girls are increasingly interested in playing football – citing teamwork, exercise, and a good sense of values as the main benefits of the game.A spokesman for vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen, which is giving 29 girls the chance to be a referee mascot at the Women’s Euros matches, said: “The benefits – and barriers – to girls in football are well documented.“We wanted to celebrate some of the women who have blazed a trail for aspiring young players, to mark an amazing Women’s Euros season.“Alex Scott is a brilliant and deserving topper of this poll, and she sets a wonderful example to girls around the world making their way in the game.”The study also found three in ten of those polled believe women’s football will eventually be viewed equally to the men’s game – but this isn’t expected to happen for almost eight years.And 69% believe professional women’s football should receive more attention than it currently does.However, almost two-thirds (64%) think the future is bright, as there are more female role models in the game now than ever before.And the same number wish there had been more high-profile female footballers and pundits when they were children.It also emerged those polled, via OnePoll,

Bloke driving from Brazil to Alaska with his dog killed two days before finishing trip
dog has been killed in a car crash just two days before completing his trip. Jesse Koz, 29, and his golden retriever named Shurastey had originally embarked on his 'dream tour' on board his 1978 Volkswagen Beatle in 2020.Due to Covid however, the pair could not cross the Mexican-US border and had to return home to Brazil.The duo managed to resume their highly anticipated trip the following year and were near the end of their trip when tragedy struck.Herald and News reports that the influencer swerved to avoid traffic on Highway 199 near Selma in Josephine County, Oregon, when he collided with a Ford Escape driven by Eileen Huss, 62.The 29-year-old unfortunately didn't make it, while Huss and a two-year-old child that was also in the car with her were transported to hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.Koz and his best friend Shurastey had crossed from the Mexican state of Nuevo León to Texas and later visited the NASA Space Centre in Houston, before heading to the Deep South of the US.The pair then made it Florida, before heading to the East Coast and then the Midwest, before crossing through California.To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here.The Brazilian named his trip ‘Shurastey or Shuaigow’, a tribute to his pup, while alluding to The Clash’s song ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’.He also spoke of the "freedom" he felt while on his US trip.He wrote: “There is no happiness without freedom, and I always paid a lot to be free in this project.
