A man who was arrested after a child was grabbed from their mum as they walked down a Bolton street has been detained under the Mental Health Act, police have confirmed.
The 'distressing' incident happened on Mayor Street at around 6.30pm last Tuesday (February 21). The mum was walking with her child when an unknown man approached them.
He snatched the child and tried to run from the scene. Brave members of the public helped apprehend him before police officers arrived. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of kidnap and taken into police custody for questioning. In an update issued today, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said he had been detained for 28 days under the Mental Health Act.
