Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has paid tribute to Steve Albini following the legendary producer’s death – see what Cocker had to say below.Yesterday (May 8), it was revealed that Steve Albini, who was known for recording and producing classic albums such as Nirvana‘s ‘In Utero’ and Pixies‘ ‘Surfer Rosa’ among others, had died at the age of 61 due to a heart attack.Now, Cocker – who worked with Albini on his solo album ‘Further Complications’ in 2009 – has taken to social media to share a tribute to the late record producer, engineer and musician.He wrote on Instagram to accompany a photo he had taken of Albini’s Electrical Audio studio: “This is not a very interesting photograph – but very interesting things happened within these walls. This is a photo of the building that contains Electrical Audio: the recording studio established by Steve Albini in Chicago.”“I took this photo during January 2009 when we were recording the ‘Further Complications’ album there.

Pulp‘s Jarvis Cocker has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers of The Great Escape‘s newly revamped conference.The Brighton festival will be returning from May 15-18 and will play host to a raft of speakers from across the music industry.Cocker will be presenting a talk on May 18 called ‘Biophobia’, a a special climate-themed talk about getting to grips with nature. It will be presented by EarthPercent, the charity founded by Brian Eno to help the music industry support the most prominent organisations tackling the climate emergency.Meanwhile, Darcus Beese OBE will give the conference’s opening keynote conversation on May 15 in which he is set to reflect on his career as the UK’s first black record company CEO and his prestige as an A&R, having been responsible for signing and nurturing artists like Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine and U2.Another of the keynote speeches will be delivered by Tom Gray, Chair of the Ivors Academy and Labour Party prospective candidate for Brighton Pavilion, and Yolanda Brown OBE DL, musician, broadcaster and Chair of the BPI.

Pulp have announced the addition of new dates to their upcoming North American tour, marking their first shows in the US in over a decade.The band previously announced a handful of live dates set to take place in the US starting on September 8. Today (March 20), the Britpop group shared that they have added additional shows in Toronto, New York City and Los Angeles.The new dates are September 11 at HISTORY in Toronto, September 14 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, and September 19 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

Jarvis Cocker has shared how Pulp paid tribute to late bassist Steve Mackey while the band were on tour in South America last year.The frontman uploaded a post on Instagram today (March 2) to mark the first anniversary of Mackey’s death, writing: “It is one year since Steve Mackey departed this earth.”Cocker continued: “You may remember that on the day of Steve’s death I posted about an amazing hike in the Andes that he organised the day after our show in Santiago, Chile back in November 2012. Pulp drummer Nick Banks has spoken to NME about lessons learned from his memoir, how Britpop seemed like a “joke” at the time, and what the future may look like for the band.Released last week, So It Started There: From Punk To Pulp tells of the early times, the good times, the not-so-good times and the WTF times” of the band – as described by frontman Jarvis Cocker – as well as the drummer’s early years and life outside of the band.“It was a bit of a lockdown project; I just thought I’d get on and write my version of events,” Banks told NME. “I don’t think that there’d really been an insider’s view of all of the events.
