Romy has told NME The xx are back in the studio working on a “wide open” and “exciting new album”.The singer, who released her debut solo LP ‘Mid-Air’ last year, gave an update about the band’s long awaited new record at the Beyond The Valley festival in Australia.When asked about being back in the studio with her bandmates, Romy said: “Yeah it’s fun, it’s quite different being in the studio with The xx.“I think Oliver [Sim] and Jamie [xx] and I have all tried new things and learned a lot from different projects and I think that’s quite healthy to be like, ‘What have you learned? What should we do now?’ And I think it’s quite wide open and it’s exciting to be starting again in a way. NME can exclusively share the trailer for short film Hideous, a horror musical starring The xx bandmates Oliver Sim and Jamie xx.Directed by Yann Gonzalez (Knife+Heart, Islands), Hideous is described as an avant-garde three-part musical about growing up as a queer boy living with HIV.In the short, Sim stars as the main guest of a talk show which slides into a surreal journey of love, blood and homage to some of the singer’s favourite horror films. The short also features songs from Sim’s upcoming debut solo album ‘Hideous Bastard’, which he has previewed with singles ‘Hideous’, ‘Fruit’, ‘Romance With A Memory’ and ‘GMT’.Jimmy Somerville stars in the short as The Guardian Angel with drag queen Bimini as The Queen Of Doom.

After the release of his 2015 critical and commercial smash In Colour, Jamie xx waited nearly five years to drop another solo single. The club-ready "Idontknow" arrived in May 2020, followed by another prolonged recording hiatus.

Four Tet, Skrillex and Jamie xx have announced a last-minute, intimate show in East London tomorrow (September 7).The three huge artists will play the 150-capacity Moth Club in Hackney, with tickets having gone on sale this morning.

Jamie xx has released the video for his latest single "Idontknow." The video stars Northern Irish choreographer Oona Doherty and was co-directed by Doherty and Luca Traffarelli. The video was shot in Belfast, the night before the city went into lockdown.

Jamie xx is back with a new solo song—his first under his own name since releasing his debut album In Colour in 2015. It’s called “Idontknow” and it’s been a staple of his live shows since last year.
