We Are Scientists have shared their first new music of 2022, ‘Operator Error’.The new single is said to precede more news that is to be revealed “shortly”. The New York duo’s latest album was last year’s ‘Huffy’.Bassist Chris Cain said of the new track: “It starts with what sounds like a countdown timer for some kind of destructive alien device, but ends up being a countdown timer for one of the punchiest little pop songs on Earth.

Courtney Barnett made an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers this week, tailing her just-finished North American tour with a performance of ‘Turning Green’.The song appears on Barnett’s recent third album, ‘Things Take Time, Take Time’, which arrived last November via Mom + Pop. She performed it with her current backing band of bassist Bones Sloane, drummer Dave Mudie and Warpaint‘s Stella Mozgawa – with whom Barnett recorded ‘Things Take Time, Take Time’ – on keyboards.Both Barnett and Mozgawa play percussion in the performance, with the former playing cowbell and the latter playing tambourine. Have a look at the performance below:Having just finished her tour of North America, Barnett and her band are gearing up for a trek across Europe and the UK, which will kick off in Munich on Friday October 28.

Nilüfer Yanya has shared a cover of PJ Harvey‘s ‘Rid Of Me’, the artist’s first musical release since the arrival of her second album in March.Speaking about her cover of the 1993 track, Yanya said: “‘Rid Of Me’ haunted me for many years after I first heard it, but in a comforting kind of way, like I knew it was always there for me. It comes across defiant, alien and twisted, but it is a perfect song.“I actually think it’s very romantic despite what some of the lyrics get at.”Yanya will be playing a number of live shows in support of her recent album ‘Painless’, performing at Desert Daze festival, supporting Roxy Music across the UK, and playing several European headline shows.Back in March, Yanya was the musical guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she performed ‘Midnight Sun’, dressed in a pair of pink fairy wings and backed by a three-piece band.Speaking about the track when it was first released as a single, she said: “I really like the imagery of ‘midnight sun’ as a lyric as it insinuates a light guiding you through darkness.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played a small show in Chicago earlier this week, where the trio debuted a new song from soon-to-be-released fifth album ‘Cool It Down’.The show was announced earlier this month and took place at the Metro in Chicago on Monday night (September 19). The band played unreleased song ‘Lovebomb’ – a slow-burner built around shimmery, atmospheric synths – and four other cuts from the band’s first album in nearly a decade, which is set to arrive next week.Other ‘Cool It Down’ tracks on the setlist included the album’s lead single – the Perfume Genius-assisted ‘Spitting Off The Edge of The World’ – and last month’s ‘Burning’, along with the unreleased ‘Fleez’ and ‘Blacktop’, both of which the band have been previewing on tour in recent months.

Pale Waves have cancelled the remaining dates on their North America tour due to “logistical and safety issues” with their tour bus.The band had dates booked up until October 7 in the US, but said they are now unable to fulfil the remainder of the tour.In a post on Instagram, they said: “We are hugely disappointed to say that due to logistical and safety issues with our tour bus, we are unable to complete the remainder of our North American tour. We’ve exhausted every possible option to find a new bus, but have been left with no option but to cancel these remaining dates.“We’re so sorry to everyone who has purchased tickets – we’re working with our booking agent to arrange rescheduled dates and will share more details as soon as we possibly can.

Chloe Moriondo has shared her latest single ‘Cdbaby’ and announced a UK and European tour for 2023.The indie-pop artist will return next month with her third album ‘SUCKERPUNCH’, which follows 2021’s acclaimed ‘Blood Bunny’.‘Cdbaby’ marks the second track to be released from ‘SUCKERPUNCH’, following August’s ‘Fruity’, and finds Moriondo lacing the track with a drum’n’bass beat. “Now some songs make me sick to my stomach when I hear ‘em / How’d I let you ruin one of my favourite albums?” she asks on the song.“This is my baby and child,” the musician tweeted last week (September 17).

Arlo Parks has cancelled a number of her forthcoming US tour dates to protect her mental health. “I am broken,” she said in a statement.The singer began a run of shows in the States at the start of the month, but said that her mental health has “deteriorated to a debilitating place” and left her “burnt out”.As such, eight gigs between September 14 and 24 have been cancelled for the singer to fly home to London and recover.

Marcus Mumford has teamed up with Phoebe Bridgers on a new track called ‘Stonecatcher’ – you can listen to it below.The song appears on the Mumford & Sons frontman’s debut solo album ‘(self-titled)’, which came out today (September 16) via Island.Bridgers provided backing vocals on the delicate, stripped-back number. “Oh, my God, we’re here again/ It all slows down to lines in the sand,” the pair sing together in the understated chorus.During a recent interview with NME, Mumford explained that the ‘Punisher’ singer-songwriter has been his “friend for a long time”, adding: “We’ve had lots of conversations which have been really helpful to me over the years.”He continued: “I asked her whether she’d be down to come and hear something and whether she wanted to sing on it.

Phoenix make an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, teaming up with Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig to perform their new single ‘Tonight’.The five-piece French band performed live on Colbert’s New York soundstage, while Koenig’s part comes via synchronised video.
