Interpol have announced a huge free show in Mexico City, scheduled for later this month – find all the details below.The New York band are due to perform in Zócalo, a historic 280,000-capacity ceremonial square, on Saturday, April 20. It’ll mark their biggest gig yet, and be Mexico’s largest concert event of the year so far.Sharing details of the upcoming date on social media yesterday (April 1), Interpol wrote: “We are absolutely electric with excitement to announce that we will be playing a free concert for our Mexican fans – and fans from all over for that matter – at the Zócalo in the heart of Mexico City on Saturday April 20, 2024.“It’s a dream for us to be able to perform in such an iconic and historic setting! We are gonna give it some ganas, so be there or be square as they say.

Duran Duran, Blondie and Interpol have been announced as the headliners of Cruel World Festival 2024. The festival revealed its 2024 line-up yesterday (December 4), which will also feature ‘80s and ‘80s post-punk, new wave and alternative rock veterans, including Simple Minds, Placebo, Soft Cell, Adam Ant, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Ministry, who will perform songs from their earliest albums, ‘With Sympathy’ and ‘Twitch’.

Interpol have shared a new documentary about the making of their acclaimed 2022 album ‘The Other Side Of Make-Believe‘ to launch new record ‘Interpolations’ – which “reimagines” tracks from the LP.The “reworked” songs from ‘The Other Side Of Make Believe’ that feature on ‘Interpolations’ will be released in the coming months, and come from Daniel Avery, Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, Jesu and Water From Your Eyes.

Smashing Pumpkins have shared new song ‘Spellbinding’ and announced a US tour with special guests Interpol.In September last year the band announced the new three-part rock opera LP, ‘ATUM’, serving as a sequel to their classic double records ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ (1995) and ‘Machina/The Machines Of God’ (2000).‘Act I’ was released in November, with ‘Act II’ following in February. The band have now confirmed that the album will be complete with the release of ‘Act III’ on May 5, delayed from April 21.

Interpol guitarist Daniel Kessler has responded to Peter Hook‘s past claim that he applied to become the band’s new bassist following the departure of Carlos Dengler.Dengler departed the NYC indie outfit back in 2010, having been a member since the group’s formation in 1997. Interpol continued as a trio, though their live shows feature additional touring musicians.Shortly after Dengler quit, former New Order bassist Hook told LA Weekly that he’d “applied” to replace the ex-member but claimed he “didn’t get picked”.
