Sister Midnight has been revealed, with a soundtrack from Interpol frontman Paul Banks.The film was written and directed by London-based Indian artist and filmmaker Karan Kandhari and stars acclaimed Indian actress Radhika Apte as Uma – a rebellious small-town misfit, who arrives in Mumbai and finds herself unfit as a housewife.A synopsis of the film reads: “A newly arranged marriage.

An oddball couple shoved together in a small Mumbai shack with paper-thin walls.“They are awkward and alone-together. Unpredictable Uma does her best to cope with the heat, her total lack of domestic skills, nosy neighbours and her bumbling spouse until the nocturnal world of Mumbai and its inhabitants lead her to face her own strange behaviours.”Kandhari is known for his work as a music video director and has previously worked with Franz Ferdinand on the video for their 2014 track ‘Stand On The Horizon’ as well as The Vaccines‘ 2013 song ‘Melody Calling’.

Sister Midnight marks Kandhari’s debut feature.The film is also Paul Banks’ debut as a composer, serving as the creator of the film’s soundtrack.

It features tracks from the likes of Howling Wolf, Buddy Holly, The Band, Motörhead, T. Rex, Blind Willie Johnson, and The Stooges – the film’s title is lifted from Iggy Pop and co’s 1977 song of the same name.Sister Midnight previously premiered at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight and won the award for Best Film in the Next Wave section at Fantastic Fest.
