The Armed have played a raucous cover of The Stooges’ ‘Search And Destroy’ at a Bernie Sanders rally in Michigan – watch below.The left-wing US senator is currently on a tour he has dubbed ‘Fighting Oligarchy’, where he is taking to a series of town halls to address the state of American democracy.
He has been inviting musical guests to open the shows and on Saturday (March 8), The Armed were on hand at Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan.They opened their set with a blistering version of the 1973 track by Michigan’s own Stooges. “This will be fun,” the band said by way of introduction. “This song is by The Stooges.”Watch fan-captured footage here:A post shared by Detroit Metro Times (@metrotimes)A post shared by The Armed (@thearmedixi)Earlier in the ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour, Sanders welcomed acts including Poliça and Kinsella & Pulse, the new group from Laura Jane Grace.The Armed’s Uriah Hackney has some experience with the song they covered, having played with Iggy Pop at California’s No Values Festival last year, alongside Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and others.Last August, The Armed announced they were cancelling their scheduled US tour. “The finances of an indie band across the board are quite tenuous, and often dealt with in the aggregate,” they wrote. “And one (or in this case, several) things going wrong often has consequences down the line.”The band’s fifth and to date most recent studio album was 2023’s ‘Perfect Saviors’.
