Metronomy have cancelled their upcoming North American tour behind this year’s ‘Small World’ LP in order to prioritise their “home lives”.Posting on Instagram, the band revealed that after a summer full of festivals, they were unprepared for an “exhausting” upcoming tour and are instead taking time for themselves.They wrote: “Dear North America and Canada…some bad news ☹️.“We’re very sorry to say that we will be postponing our upcoming October tour. It’s not something we do lightly, so in the spirit of transparency and decency! we want to explain why.”Metronomy added: “Touring in America is one of the most exciting things a band can do.

The Flaming Lips will celebrate two decades since their 10th studio album ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’ with a deluxe reissue, as well as anniversary shows in London and Washington, DC.The band will release a six-CD box set edition on November 25, with a five-LP vinyl edition following on April 14 next year, both via Warner. The CD version – which will also arrive on streaming platforms – includes 50 previously-unreleased tracks, and “dozens” of rare cuts such as B-sides, demos, remixes, live versions and other rarities.

Jarvis Cocker‘s band JARV IS… have announced a vinyl edition of their This Is Going Hurt original soundtrack.The group wrote and performed both the score and a collection of original songs for the medical comedy-drama, which aired earlier this year on BBC One. JARV IS… later released the soundtrack on digital streaming services.Today (September 29), JARV IS… have confirmed that the ‘This Is Going To Hurt’ album will arrive on vinyl on October 21.

Arctic Monkeys have added a second Manchester date to their 2023 UK and Ireland stadium tour following a huge early demand for tickets.The returning Sheffield four-piece will tour in the UK and Ireland in May and June next year, with tickets set to go on general sale here tomorrow morning (September 30).A pre-sale for the whole tour took place earlier this morning (September 29), with the pre-sale for the band’s initial Manchester date at Emirates Old Trafford on June 2, 2023 selling out.Arctic Monkeys will now play a second date at Emirates Old Trafford on June 3, 2023. Johnny Borrell has formed a new band, Jealous Nostril.The Razorlight frontman has recruited Mystery Jets’ Jack Flanagan and ElliS D for his latest venture, with Borrell explaining of the new band name: “Jealous Nostril, a binary system… One is fulfilled, the other isn’t.”Asked in an accompanying press statement if the name is a drug reference, Borrell replied: “The half of my north London friends who still party hear it as cocaine, and the half who have been through rehab ask me if it’s referencing Pranayama yoga breathing.“We’re definitely neither a coke or a yoga band! Arctic Monkeys have announced a change of venue for their show in Dublin next summer.A social media post confirmed that the band will now be playing Malahide Castle instead of the previously announced Marlay Park as part of their much-anticipated 2023 tour.The reasons behind the venue switch have not been shared. Shed Seven drummer Alan Leach has announced details of his debut solo album – listen to first single ‘Clouds Behind The Moon’ below.The album, titled ‘I Wish I Knew Now What I Thought I Knew Then’, will come out on November 4 and was engineered and mixed by Embrace keys player Mickey Dale.Discussing the album in a statement, Leach said: “Until I wasn’t in Shed Seven any more, I didn’t realise just how much I was ready for a break and up for trying something different.I’ve had a lot of these songs buzzing around my head for years, but band life can tie up a lot of your energies, so until now, I never got around to doing anything with them.“As this is my debut album, I felt like I had a completely blank canvas, so I just threw stuff at it and hoped for the best. Romantic storytelling seems to be where I’m at my most comfortable writing lyrics, but that hasn’t stopped me from attempting to put the world to rights on a couple of songs.”He added: “Singing has been the big challenge. Tegan And Sara have shared the latest taste of their forthcoming tenth studio album ‘Crybaby’ in the form of a punchy new single titled ‘I Can’t Grow Up’.Described by the band as a “snotty nosed pop song about not being able to grow out of bad habits in relationships,” it comes with playful visuals which you can see below.The band’s Sara Quin said the track inspired musically by Chicago band Dehd and their 2020 album ‘Flower of Devotion’.She said: “The song started on bass, an instrument I’d never written with until Crybaby, and I was channeling a little bit of Emily Kempf from Dehd, and Peter Hook from New Order. The Big Moon have announced that they will not be selling merch at their London gig at the O2 Kentish Town Forum tonight (September 28), and will instead host a pop-up store at a nearby pub.In a Twitter thread, the band called out the venue’s practise of taking a cut of 25 per cent plus VAT on each sale. “This is basically all of our profit on merch,” they said.“This leaves us with the choice of either not making any profit, or increasing prices and charging you guys more – neither feels fair.”To circumvent this, the band will be selling merchandise at The Abbey Tavern on Kentish Town Road before and after the gig.“Merch is one of the few ways we keep ourselves afloat at this level when touring profits are still minimal!” the thread continued.

The Smiths‘ Mike Joyce has discussed the band’s final album ‘Strangeways, Here We Come’ on its 35th anniversary.The legendary Manchester quartet’s fourth studio LP came out on September 28, 1987, a few months after the band split up.Speaking to BBC News to celebrate its birthday, Joyce said “it was a great experience recording that album,” adding that he marks it out from the band’s previous records because it is “a story album”.Joyce added: “I think it’s just an unusual-sounding album. There’s great songs on the others, but it just pips it for me, in terms of what we ended up with as an album and the whole thing in its entirety, rather than individual songs.”Remembering the recording process for the album, Joyce said: “A lot of it was written in the studio.
