Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison and his visual collaborator have spoken to NME about a new book of artwork created by the late singer.In 2021, Hutchison’s family and collaborators collected the late frontman’s lyrics and artwork together for the first time in a book titled The Work – described by the surviving members of Frightened Rabbit as “a tribute to Scott’s unbridled creativity”. The release was celebrated by fans, after he singer died by suicide in 2018.Then last month, Faber Music released Living In Colour: The Art Of Scott Hutchison – a book celebrating the idiosyncratic, darkly comic, acerbic and romantic imagination of the frontman by presenting his illustrations, Frightened Rabbit artwork, sketches for fans, work from his time at Glasgow School Of Art and “everything in between”.“We always had it in mind, especially after the unexpected success of The Work, but it’s always something I felt should exist,” Scott’s brother and Frightened Rabbit drummer Grant Hutchison told NME.“We always knew that Scott was just as much an illustrator as he was a musician and a lyricist,” added renowned album designer DLT (Dave Thomas) – who worked with Hutchison across Frightened Rabbit artwork as well as helping put together The Work and Living In Colour.

Frightened Rabbit have announced that they are working on a documentary and have asked fans to contribute with photos and videos.Taking to their official Instagram account, the band shared a post in which they said they had been approached by filmmaker William Miller in 2017 about making a documentary specifically about their 2008 album ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’, with the plan of releasing something for its 10-year anniversary celebration in 2018.They explained that due to the passing of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, almost everything for the documentary had been put “on hold whilst we coped with the loss of Scott and in a lot of ways the end of FR. We never fully gave up on the idea of getting this film made and thankfully neither did the team involved in making it – so this year we picked those conversations back up and are in the process of making this film a reality.”“As with most things we try to do, we want this story to be told from as many perspectives as possible and are keen to create something that feels like it’s from the FR community as much as it is for it,” they continued.

Frightened Rabbit and Death Cab For Cutie is up for auction to raise money for mental health charity Tiny Changes.The charity was set up by the family of late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who died by suicide in May 2018.It aims to improve mental health in children and young people in Scotland and takes its name from a lyric from the Frightened Rabbit song ‘Head Rolls Off’ (“While I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to Earth”).Announcing the auction on Instagram, Tiny Changes wrote: “Kindly donated by @grabbit @frabbits, this special, one-of-a-kind Fender Jazz Bass guitar was signed by both Frightened Rabbit and @deathcabforcutie during their 2011 summer tour in the USA.“We’re auctioning this unique piece of musical history to help boost the total of our very first Make Tiny Changes Month – a campaign that’s raised over £15k so far this March for young people’s mental health.”The auction went live at 9pm yesterday (March 26) and is set to close in nine days. Poster Paints, the Scottish indie-pop duo made up of vocalist Carla J Easton of TeenCanteen and Frightened Rabbit‘s Simon Liddell, have announced their debut album.The pair first met through Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines, for whom Easton has played keyboards. They shared their melodic, shoegaze-tinged single ‘Never Saw It Coming’ in 2021, which followed debut single ‘Number 1’.

Mogwai’s Alex Mackay also stepped in for Twilight Sad guitarist Andy MacFarlane, who was unable to perform “due to personal reasons”.The band have regularly covered ‘Keep Yourself Warm’ at shows since their close friend Hutchison took his own life in 2018.

Frank Turner has opened up about how losing Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison and the theme of “acceptance” shaped his new album ‘FTHC’.Hutchison, who died by suicide in 2018, was recently immortalised by his friend Turner on the single ‘A Wave Across The Bay‘ from his ninth album ‘FTHC’ – released last week (Friday February 11).
