Gilbert disclosed the news in a statement on Wednesday, penning a letter to the banner’s “friends, partners, team members and backers.” “Having explored many options for many months, BRON had no choice but to take this step in light of its financial circumstances. The last few years have been incredibly difficult for BRON, and things have only gotten more complicated over these past months,” Gilbert shared, citing the COVID pandemic and both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes as insurmountable headwinds for the company’s continued operations. The exec also stated that the company would not be doing press.

The YouTuber who defamed Cardi B has filed for bankruptcy protection in the US, suggesting that the rapper may struggle to claim the millions in damages she was awarded by the courts.Cardi B – real name Belcalis Almanzar – sued YouTube creator Latasha Kebe over various claims that the latter made about the former in her YouTube videos. That included, legal papers said, that Almanzar “was a prostitute … was a user of cocaine … had and still has herpes … had and still has HPV … engaged in a debasing act with a beer bottle and … committed infidelity”.Almanzar denied all the allegations that Kebe had made, and told the court that false rumours spread by the YouTuber had had a negative impact on her mental health, resulting in the rapper becoming depressed and suicidal.Kebe, meanwhile, basically admitted in court that she didn’t fact-check any of the allegations made about Almanzar on her YouTube channel, even when the rapper was actively denying those claims.A jury found Kebe liable for defamation in January last year, awarding the rapper nearly $4 million in damages.

Trail-blazing youth brand Vice Media has formally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Vice Media Group, said on Monday it had filed for Chapter 11 protection to facilitate its sale. The company said in a court filing that it listed both assets and liabilities in the range of $500 million to $1 billion, according to the Reuters news service. The statement also said that the group had agreed to the terms of an asset purchase agreement with a consortium of lenders. These include Fortress Investment Group, Soros Fund Management, and Monroe Capital. The consortium agreed to provide total purchase consideration of approximately $225 million in the form of a credit bid for substantially all of the company’s assets, in addition to the assumption of significant liabilities upon closing, the statement said.

The Brooklyn-based company post-bankruptcy arrangement to sell to investors including Fortress Investment Group and Soros Fund Management would value it at $400 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. That would be less than 10% of its once high-flying $5.7 billion valuation back in 2017. The New York Times last week reported that Vice was prepping a bankruptcy filing. A spokesman for Vice Media declined to comment. Representatives for Fortress and Soros Fund Management did not respond to requests for comment.
