Students told to stay where they are during health crisis

Students are being told to “stay where they are” and not attempt to travel back to family homes. The Scottish Government wrote to student groups, university and college principals on strict rules to avoid the spread of coronavirus Covid-19.

Education minister Richard Lochhead also called for rental agreements to be relaxed if students have to stay in their term-time accommodation longer than expected.

He said: “I’ve made it clear that advice from the Chief Medical Officer and Scottish Government is that students remaining at college and university accommodation should stay where they are and not attempt to travel to their family home, even if that is in another part of Scotland.“Whether they are living in student halls, or private rented
