Steph McGovern says fronting her own daytime show gives her nightmares. She finds many of the stories they cover too harrowing to think about.Steph told me: “I get briefs on what we’ll be featuring on the show and if I read some of the sad ones the night before, I have bloody nightmares about the things that have happened to people.“With some of them, I can’t read about it until the morning of the show.“The ones that make me sad are anything to do with babies or someone dying.”Steph often struggles to keep it together on air as she added: “I cry a lot more now I’m a mum.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed.“I really have to concentrate on not crying on TV because obviously it’s about them, not me.“We had a little boy on who is raising money for his brother and sister who have died.“He was so eloquent and amazing and I was the emotional one.” The show is a hit for Channel 4, and Steph has been nominated for an RTS award. She said: “We launched this show in my living room during lockdown in 2020.“I didn’t know if we’d make it to the end of the week, never mind two years.

I’m so proud of how well it has done.”Meanwhile, fans were left stunned as the Channel 4 show is being taken off air next week for a fortnight. It is being replaced with Couples Come Dine With Me and Find It, Fix It, Flog It.A spokesperson confirmed: "The series is taking two weeks off for Easter but will return on Monday April 25th."Steph’s Packed Lunch airs every weekday at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
