It's a dense and tasty treat and goes down well with whisky.Also referred to as a Scotch bun, it is a type of fruit cake dating back to the 16th century.
It was originally consumed on Twelfth Night after being introduced following the return of Mary, Queen of Scots from France.As the Twelve Days of Christmas drew to a close, part of the celebrations would include hiding a bean or charm inside a black bun.
