Professor Hendrik Streeck said the public should get used to regular spikes in cases in certain areas, as it happened in Scotland recently.
The German virologist believes we will still be battling with Covid-19 in 2023 - and said people should get used to it in their everyday life.
The doctor has helped lead the response to the pandemic in Heinsberg, one of the worst-hit districts of Germany, the Daily Record reports.
