Male troops prosecuted for allegedly raping female colleagues have a 90% chance of walking free. Just 13 of 128 who faced a court martial accused of rape were convicted between 2015 and 2019, Ministry of Defence figures show.
And in 2017, just two out of 49 personnel were convicted under the Service Justice System. By comparison, men tried for the crime in civilian trials face a 50% chance of conviction, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The huge disparity between the two justice systems has led to calls for all forces personnel charged with sexual offences to face crown court trials.
