Sainsbury’s is closing all of its supermarket cafes, including three in Greater Manchester, as part of a massive shake-up. We reported earlier how the retailer has announced it's cutting more than 3,000 jobs and plans to shut its remaining in-store cafes.
It includes the one in Denton, Tameside and those in Cheadle and Hazel Grove, both Stockport. Others closing just outside Manchester, include Nantwich, Morecambe, Bamber Bridge, Macclesfield and Harrogate.
The company says its current 148,000-strong workforce will be slashed by 2% overall, with about 20% of senior management roles cut at the supermarket giant as part of plans to focus on fewer, bigger roles and to simplify its head office and management teams.
It says its 61 Sainsbury’s Cafes will be closing 'subject to consultation' and the majority of Sainsbury’s shoppers do not use the cafes regularly, whereas in-store food halls and concessions have grown in popularity.
