Greater Manchester's 10 councils will be given a quarter of a billion pounds next year that they can only spend on one thing.

The ring-fenced grant for public health has been confirmed by the government with nearly £13m more given to Greater Manchester.

The funding will help councils pay for sexual health services, smoking cessation programmes and drug treatment among other things.

It comes as the government pumps an extra £200m into public health across the country. In total, Greater Manchester will get £251m over the next financial year, up from £238m, with Manchester council receiving the lion's share of the cash at around £111.16 per person.
