Sainsbury's axing 3,500 jobs at Argos stores and supermarket counters

Sainsbury’s has confirmed plans to slash 3,500 jobs across its supermarket meat, fish and deli counters, as well as Argos stores.The chain said roles will go as plans to immediately close 120 Argos stores, as it excels a strategy to shut 420 branches over the next three-and-a-half years.

Job losses are also expected in Sainsbury's stores, with a large number of roles expected to be cut in customer-facing roles made impossible by Covid-19.The job losses are likely to be identified in the supermarket delicatessens and fresh fish and meat counters, it has been reported.Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s, Simon Roberts, said the company will be talking to colleagues today and promised to find alternative roles where appropriate.
