Trainspotting follow-up novel The Blade Artist.Carlyle played Edinburgh hardman Begbie in Danny Boyle’s 1996 cult classic, as well as its long-awaited 2017 sequel T2: Trainspotting.There have long been rumours of a third film – encouraged by Welsh in various press interviews – ever since, but before that, Carlyle confirmed to NME in September that a small-screen adventure would be arriving first.
It’s based on Welsh’s fifth book written about the Trainspotting characters.The Blade Artist – which follows on from previous novels Trainspotting (1993), Porno (2002) and Skagboys (2012), and came ahead of 2018’s Dead Man‘s Trousers – catches up with Begbie’s past and present.
