A retired police officer has been shot dead while defending a friend's store from 'looting' amid unrest in the United States.
Former police captain David Dorn died in a pool of blood on a pavement in St Louis on Tuesday morning as protests erupted around the states.
US media reports it is suspected the 77-year-old grandfather was shot by looters, however no arrests have yet been made. The tragedy came amid demonstrations over the death of George Floyd and racial discrimination in the justice system, as protests spread to the Missouri city.
Captain Dorn's bloody dying moments were filmed and streamed live on Facebook, as bystanders could be heard pleading with him to cling to life.
