Ralph Tavares dead – Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel star dies aged 79

SOUL singer Ralph Tavares has died just days before his 80th birthday. The musician shot to fame as part of R&B group Tavares - best known for their hit Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel.

His cause of death has not yet been revealed. Ralph was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, before his family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts.

He was the fifth of 10 brothers and enjoyed success with his four younger siblings - Pooch, Chubby, Butch and Tiny - in the band Tavares with songs such as Never Had a Love Like This Before.

They started performing in 1959 as Chubby and the Turnpikes, with Ralph joining the band in 1965 after a stint in the Army.
