Real-life quidditch is set to be renamed in a bid to "distance" the sport from Harry Potter author JK Rowling's controversial views on the transgender community.
The bodies in charge of the sport, which is inspired by the author's series of books, say the change will be made following Rowling's "anti-trans positions in recent years."US Quidditch (USQ) and Major League Quidditch (MLQ) announced the move in a joint statement.A survey will be conducted in the next few months to decide the new name.
The statement read: "The leagues are hoping a name change can help them continue to distance themselves from the works of JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series, who has increasingly come under scrutiny for her anti-trans positions
