Queen 's closest relatives hold a royal title which bring with it certain duties and expectations. However, when the Queen’s first grandchild, Peter Phillips, was born in 1977 he broke 500 years of tradition when he was not given an official royal title.The son of Princess Anne, who is often referred to as the Queen’s “favourite grandchild” by insiders, was not given a royal title after his parents refused the offer.
Traditionally in the British Royal Family it's only the sons of the monarch whose children are given royal titles. This means Prince Charles ’ sons William and Harry are princes, and Prince Andrew ’s daughters Eugenie and Beatrice are princesses.
