Queen's landing in London to be aborted as her pilot waited for less difficult conditions. The monarch was caught up in Britain's recent stormy weather during a private jet flight home from Aberdeen in Scotland ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.Sudden violent weather delayed the Queen's return to Windsor Castle only seconds before her 13-seater plane was set to land.

Appearing unfazed by the drama in the sky, the Queen, 96, was pictured in the passenger seat of a black 4x4 leaving RAF Northolt, North West London.Lightning broke out on Her Majesty's return from a five-night stay relaxing at her grand Scottish residence of Balmoral before she is thrust into TV cameras this week.The Queen's journey began on Monday lunchtime (May 30) when a car whisked her from the estate’s Craigowan Lodge to Aberdeen airport where she boarded an 86ft long Embraer 135.To keep her from holidaymakers' prying eyes, the private jet was waiting for her in a hanger out of sight from the main terminal and took to the sky in the rain shortly after 1pm.After an hour and a half in the air, the Queen was expecting to touch down at RAF Northolt without any issues, that was until a blistering lightning storm struck.
