A day later, he announced he was to leave the Etihad after 11 glorious years, and has since been given a testimonial - and iconic - statue outside the stadium.
In the eyes of City fans, he can do no wrong. Some have even touted him as a future manager at the club, and he was linked with replacing Mikel Arteta as Pep Guardiola's number two when he left for Arsenal.
