Primark 'planning post-lockdown bumper sale' after building up £1.5bn of unsold stock

Primark has built up a mountain of unsold clothes and other goods while shops are closed but stock orders arrive. There is as much as £1.5billion worth of unsold stock in the budget retailer's warehouses at the moment, with no way to shift it, and that means experts are predicting a sales bonanza when stores open their doors again.

Hargreaves Lansdown analyst Sophie Lund-Yates said: "When Primark was ordered to shut its doors mountains of inventory was already on its way, ready to replenish stores which are in hibernation." She added: "For consumers this could mean bumper sales when shops reopen, as sales stickers are one of the quickest ways to shift excess items."
