As the reign of Queen Elizabeth II comes to an end - the start of the reign of King Charles III begins. The Queen died on Thursday after at Balmoral, aged 96.
The longest-reigning still-serving monarch in the world, her face has featured on stamps, coins and bank notes for decades. In a statement confirming her death Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. Elizabeth II’s effigy faces to the right. It is a tradition from the 17th century to alternate the way successive monarchs are facing.
